Ever since the beginning of 2020 we have seen more money than ever before going into the sports card industry. It has become very similar to the stock market. People will buy cards in the off season for cheap then sell for huge profits during the season. We Will take a look at a few players that are going for 100’s and even thousands of dollars.
1st. Marcelo Mayer.
Marcelo Mayer was plays shortstop for the Boston Red Sox Farm league. He was selected fourth overall in the first round of the 2021 Major League Baseball draft. Marcelo Mayer is 19 years of age and hasn’t played in a major league game yet.

2. Bobby Witt Jr.
Bobby Witt Jr. is a top three baseball prospect in the Kansas City Royals organization. Bobby Witt was selected second overall by the Royals in the 2019 Major League Baseball draft . In 2021 he hit 33 Homeruns with a batting average of .290, very impressive for a 21 year old. Lets take a look at his baseball cards.
This card currently goes for $769 on the Walmart website. While other sales on Ebay range from 800 dollars to several thousand dollars and much higher prices for the lower numbered cards.
3rd. Jay Allen
Jay Allen was a first round draft pick in 2021 for the Cincinnati Reds, picked 30th overall. Jay Allen is 19 years old with 61 at bats batting .328 Batting average and a .997 on base percentage. He currently plays in the Reds minor League organization.
Jay Allen’s cards aren’t as crazy as Bobby Witt’s or Marcelo Mayor but can get pricey. This Bowman Chrome 1st auto out of 199 last sold for 360 dollars. His lower numbered cards (50 or less) have gone for several thousand. The thing to remember is Jay hasn’t even had an at bat in the majors yet!
