Has the ground beneath your feet begun to feel unstable as you witness long-enduring pillars of commerce crumble and erode? After the quick sell out of the 5 oz piece, let’s welcome in the 2 oz High Relief silver rounds! This forth release piece in the Awakening Series is aptly named “House of Cards” as it alludes to the fragility of the global fiat currency infrastructure. Like others in the series, this product had a very limited mintage run of high-relief silver rounds minted at the Sunshine Mint

The obverse illustrates a familiar motif: a tall tower somehow constructed out of paper, each row growing gradually smaller and more vulnerable, known colloquially as a “House of Cards”. However in this design, the tower is composed of the most common world currencies of our time. The US Dollar, Euro, Yen, British Pound, Rupee, Swiss Franc, and more are all found throughout the levels of the tower of fiat notes. The House of Cards is deteriorating, with swirling winds and rising tides beginning to overcome the feeble structure.

Paper is no match for physical forces.

The notes from the top of the tower are blowing away and the base of the House of Cards is coming undone. The structure appears strong when all the pieces remain in place, but a failure of one causes the failure of many. Such is the case with the global currency dilemma in the modern era; when multiple faulty currencies propped up only by debt, dependence, and a general understanding that ‘it must work’ begin to crumble, the entire system may come undone.

If you look beneath the House of Cards, you’ll find that it’s standing on top of two pillars. These pillars read “NON PLVS ULTRA ” which means “Nothing Further Beyond”. This motto, famously inscribed on the Pillars of Hercules in the Strait of Gibraltar, marked the edge of the known world hundreds of years ago. These pillars were a metaphor for risk as sailing beyond them welcomed the unknown. Ironically, the vertical strike through the US Dollar symbol ($) originates from these pillars as well. These pillars struggling to hold up the faulty “House of Cards” is a timeless and striking metaphor for the weakness of the fiat construct.

Behind the pillars is a rising tide of violent waves. These are designed to resemble elements found on the paper dollar. Any bullion collector will love this house of cards silver piece.
